Newly commissioned furniture (six pieces in total, two of each design), designed by Norman Kelley for the United States Pavilion at the 17th International Architecture Exhibition at La Biennale di Venezia. Photography by Co-Curators Paul Andersen and Paul Preissner.
Join us Thursday June 30th for a virtual conversation with Carrie Norman and Thomas Kelley, architects and founders of the esteemed design collective Norman Kelley. In the exhibition American Framing, the collective remade a traditional Shaker dining chair using the material, detailing, and assembly techniques of softwood construction. In this virtual program, Norman and Kelley address their approach to reimagining early American furniture, such as the American Framing Shaker chair, through an egalitarian do-it-your-self approach to design and construction. Norman Kelley has worked with the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Noguchi Museum, and Volume Gallery among others.
